Disclosed is a method for an RJ45 connector with integrated magnetics and an RJ11 connector. Benefits include improved functionality and improved performance.

Background

              A requirement exists for both an RJ45 local area network (LAN) port connector and an RJ11 modem connector on the rear panel of small form-factor systems.

              The space restrictions presented by the small form-factor systems require a reconfiguration of the rear panel I/O connectors to provide the same functionality as current ATX and micro-ATX systems. The conventional way of offering the RJ11 modem port requires using a PCI card slot. However, on the smallest form factor (5L) chassis, only two expansion slots are available and customers want both of them to be available for usage.

              Conventionally, the RJ45 LAN connector is offered on the rear panel I/O of both ATX and micro-ATX form factors by using an RJ45 connector over a 2.0 USB connector. The RJ11 is offered separately from the RJ45 via a PCI card in one of the PCI slots. This solution works for ATX and micro-ATX form factors because they offer a minimum of three available expansion slots.
