Abstract

Consider an email invitation that is received, but which is not in the form of a calendar invitation. It would be useful to have an automated way to add this to the calendar without having to manually open the calendar and copy over all the fields. This idea suggests such a mechanism.

Automation of Email to Calendar Entry Conversion

This idea suggests that a new button be created on the email view screen that says "Forward to Calendar". If the user clicks the button, user will be prompted to enter a date and time. The email will then be automatically added to a calendar entry for the specified date and time.

When implementing this idea, the user may be allowed to highlight a section of the received email. This highlighted section could be used as the text in the calendar entry. A further enhancement would be to have a simple parser in the tool that scans the email and makes a guess as to the date and time of the meeting. When the prompt fields pop up for the user to enter the date and time, they could be pre-filled with these guess values.
