METHOD FOR ATTACHING A TRIM COVER TO A BLOW MOLDED SEATBACK

This invention is a method for attachment of a complete seat trim cover to a blow molded seatback utilizing a molded-in or an adhesive bonded carpet, or other trim material, assembly (referred to as “carpet asm.”). The design of this carpet asm. and the corresponding mating area of the seatback mold is the main focus of this invention.

A section of carpet or other trim material is cut to size to fit the desired area of the seatback. A trim attachment device (i.e. J-retainer or arrow-retainer) is secured to the carpet, preferably but not limited to sewing. The carpet asm. is then attached to the seatback via adhesive or preferably insert molding on a specially designed seatback mold. To insert mold this asm., the mold face must be constructed in such a way as to allow easy attachment of the carpet asm. and the proper mating of the trim attachment device to the mold wall.
