Abstract

This concept provides the client or operator with the ability to specify "non-white" (or some similar nomenclature) stock for the ancillary pages (e.g. slip sheets or banner pages). The behavior at the printer would be to match any paper color except white. This allows print jobs described above to print to completion if any non-white paper is loaded in one or more of the feeders.

This text was extracted from a Microsoft Word document.

Paper color wildcard for non-white stocks

Often printer users want to separate print jobs or sets within print jobs with sheets of colored paper. In most cases, the particular color of the stock is unimportant, so long as it is easily visually distinguishable from white stock. In order to get the desired output, the client must be aware of the stocks currently loaded on the printer. If a specified stock is not loaded in any paper feeder, the print job will not complete without operator intervention.

Provide the client or operator with the ability to specify “non-white” (or some similar nomenclature) stock for the ancillary pages (e.g. slip sheets or banner pages). The behavior at the printer would be to match any paper color except white. This allows print jobs described above to print to completion if any non-white paper is loaded in one or more of the feeders.

When a print job is received at the printer, the print instructions are resolved in software in accordance with a prescribed algorithm. This proposal enhances the algorithm to resolve paper color as follows:

Any color but non-white -> exact match required for all stock specifications.

Non-white -> matches any color except white. Select lowest number feeder containing non-white stock (that matches all other stock specifications).
