A method and apparatus of creating a document on a computer in certain non-English languages by typing in English phonetically based on how a letter or word is spoken.

My invention applies to certain Indian languages like Hindi, Marathi or Gujarati etc. However, this idea can be also applied to any other languages which are similar to the above languages.

My proposed invention allows Indian language (or any other similar language) users a way to type in English phonetically based on how a letter or word is spoken. They can see the results on the computer screen in their own native language fonts. The created document in other native language also can be printed or distributed on the Internet.

Presently, there are number of Indian language fonts defined and available for the use in the computer. For each of these sets of fonts the keyboard keys are assigned and it is possible to type directly from the keyboard in a given Indian language. However, typing in these languages is very difficult because usually the computer users are used to typing in English. The majority of keyboard types are available in only English version. This makes it virtually impossible to get used to typing in any other non-English languages.

Also, the majority of people in India know a little bit of English but shy away or are not comfortable in using e-mail communicating in English.

The advantage of my invention is that the Indian language (or any other similar language) users can now create a document in their own native language very easily by just typing in English. They don't have to worry about complicated keyboard layout of their native language fonts to type. With this invention e-mail correspondence can now be done in other additional Indian languages, which is not possible today due to typing and other difficulty as indicated above.

A software program in the computer transforms keystrokes dynamically using a table from English letters to the letters in other native language and displays...
