PAR lamp having one part metal cap with plastic outer insulator

Current PAR38 lamps consist of a contact, a shell and a skirt, all made of relatively expensive brass. These parts are separated and insulated from each other by glass. Decreasing the wall thickness of the expensive brass is limited by the huge amount of glass that during the production process is hot and then softens the brass. To counteract this disadvantage it is proposed to make the shell and the skirt out of one piece of metal, the skirt being insulated by essentially only a plastic coating to maintain safety. Thus, a significant reduction in the amount of glass is obtainable and as a result a reduction in wall thickness of the metal part can be achieved.
