Abstract

This document describes possible ways of foreseeing what links the user is going to press in a browser.

Introduction

This paper describes the improvement that can be done to estimate the link the user is going to press next in a browser. This will be useful in a pre-caching functionality.

Problem(s) To Be Solved

When a user is browsing the Internet he will in some situations, want to know what link the user is most likely to click at next. This can be used in situations like pre-caching purposes, and can in such cases improve the speed of which the user feels he is browsing. Therefore it will be useful to know what link the user will press next.

Proposed Solution to the Problem(s)

The browser will guess the next link the user is going to use. This can be achieved in one of the following ways:

- A top to bottom approach, Taking the links and preloading them, starting with the first one on the page.

- Depending on the processor power, a multithreaded solution will be used, where the content of all the links is cached simultaneously. A limit has to be used to make sure that you will have some finished cached pages. (Imagine a scenario with 1000 links) – A priority could be set for links, giving the links closest to the curser the highest priority.

- Do a screen-dependable caching. If you scroll passed a link, the browser will know that the links, that just moved out of the screen, is not interesting (Browser will stop cashing these links), and the link you are going to rea...
