Abstract

In order to change various parameters of a Radio Terminal, the operator has to look at the Radio Terminal's screen. However, for most purposes, if a screen and a few knobs were placed on the hand held external microphone, the operation would become much more convenient and time saving.

Problem To Be Solved

In order to change various parameters of a radio terminal, the operator has to look at the radio terminal's screen. However, for most purposes, if a screen and a few knobs were placed on the hand held external microphone, the operation would become much more convenient and time saving. For instance, changing the Talk Group would require one additional knob on the microphone, and the operator could track the selection of the desired group solely by taking a short glimpse at the microphone's screen, without pulling the radio terminal itself from the operator's belt, or getting closer to a mobile terminal. Another example is using the microphone when one is busy driving.

Proposed Solution to the Problem

The idea is to place a screen and the most frequently used knobs on the Radio Terminal's microphone. We propose to put the Talk Group Selection knob, the Audio Volume Control knob, the Menu Popup button and the Arrow keys, among others, on the microphone.
