EPI ghost reduction with SENSE

         In a magnetic resonance imaging method magnetic resonance signals are acquired for respective lines in k-space. The magnetic resonance signals are acquired by way of a receiver antennae system having a spatial sensitivity profile. For adjacent lines the read-gradient encodings have alternate polarity. Notably, an EPI acquisition strategy is employed where phase-encodings steps are applied between scan of adjacent lines in k-space and the read gradient changes sign.

The magnetic resonance image is reconstructed on the basis of magnetic resonance signals for scanned lines in k-space having the same polarity in k-space, i.e. only the even or odd numbered lines in k-space. The magnetic resonance signals is further reconstructed on the basis of the spatial sensitivity profile (parallel imaging).

Timing errors of echoes in the acquisition of the magnetic resonance signals that originate from differences in the polarity of the read-gradients are avoided. The parallel imaging reconstruction unfolds the aliasing that originates from the undersampling associated with the use of magnetic resonance signals for only part (half) of the lines in k-space.
