This invention seeks to improve upon the Electrical Program Guide system found in most advanced DSS and cable systems. It presents a menu of the category, subcategory, and categorized EPGs on the same OSD screen and allows the user to make his/her EPG selections while viewing the composite menu information.

EPGs have become popular in digital satellite systems, cable systems, and terrestrial digital broadcasts. Most advanced EPG systems have a wide selection of categories and subcategories, to assist the user in choosing what he/she wants to watch. However, it is not easy for a user to understand the entire category and subcategory selection process, not to mention the fact that personalizing a categorized EPG requires much effort on the part of the user. This invention will make the EPG personalization process feel much more streamlined for the average user.
