Some airlines are using a video Walkman@ to entertain their passengers. However, one major problem that the airlines are currently experiencing is that there is no effective way to secure the Walkman media. In order to effectively protect the media used in the video Walkman, a locking mechanism needs to be created.

There are two possible methods that could function as a locking mechanism in a video Walkman:

1. The use of an infrared light remote control system (see fig. 1) . In order to control the locking mechanism, an infrared light transmitter is used in conjunction with a receiver in the Walkman. When the attendant wants to access the Walkman's media, an infrared light remote controller will be used to send the lock or unlock command to the unit, in which case the unit's CPU will process the command and work the locking mechanism.

2. The use of a key combination code (see fig. 2). Alternatively, the attendant could push a pre-designated combination of the buttons on the Walkman to work the locking mechanism. This method of controlling the locking mechanism could be relied upon in case the first method does not work.
