Title:

Floating Commercial Banner Ads for PVR

Abstract:

Allow advertise to place banner ads (icon) during fast forward stage to retain minimum viewer eyeball.

Inventors:

David K-L Yang

Description of the Invention:

Problem:

Current PVR user tend to skip commercial at 2X or 3X speed. In that land of speed, commercial becomes undistinguishable background. Advertiser lose valuable viewer eyeball with no return on sponsorship.

Solution:

Add floating banner ads similar to the web floating banner ads. The icon or banner ads will appear when viewer step through commercial at 2X or 3X speed. The trigger can be added to the beginning of the ads during the A→D (MPEG2 encoding process). The date of the banner ads can be placed with the ATVFF transport stream. The PVR will extract the data and encode if along with the commercial. When user skipping the commercial at 2X or 3X speed, PVR will detect the beginning of the ads, place the commercial banner or the icon will disappear at the end of the commercial to ensure the duration respond to duration of the commercial. Advertiser will at least get a view of the commercial. User can also pause the commercial easily if he or she wants to watch the ads placed by the company by looking at the banner or icon.
