Travel Assist Cells

Abstract:

Using a storage device and a display system in an automobile, travel assist cells can be setup in a city to transmit wirelessly maps, regional travel interests, gas station locations, etc., to an automobile transceiver.

Description of the Invention:

1.      A storage medium such as a hard disk drive or a DVD writer can be used to store streaming audio data in an Audio Media Device such as a Stereo Receiver. This device can also be designed to retrieve audio, video, or textual information. A person using an automobile travels to unknown cities can now be helped. A Travel Assist Cell can be constructed in a city to assist travelers by transmitting either through solicitation or on demand information such as travel maps, short regional video information, directions to nearest gas station, restaurant, etc. As the person drives from one cell to another, the old information is purged or saved, and the new information for the new cell is downloaded. When equipped with satellite radio service and/or GPS, the system can now become a fully functional navigation system. This navigation system can now come to life with interactive videos at a touch of a button on the screen at the location the person is. This Travel Assist Cell concept can be used to transmit an infinite amount of travel assist information to a automobile. And if offered with a rental car, the weary traveler can rest easily as the travel assist helps. Imagine the possibility of booking hotels through this network by actually seeing the hotel or hotel room you may want to stay at.

2.      The solution is to incorporate a hard disk into an Audio Receiver or us an external storage device stored maybe in the trunk of an automobile. The travel assist cell is similar to a cellular cell network with transmitting towers defining a cell. Unlike a cellular network using hundreds of different channels, the travel assist cell can have a high bandwidth single channel stream that all automobiles in this network could receive and store. Some low bandwidth upstream channels could be used to relay requests to a server. The low bandwidth upstream channels could be setup similar to a cellular network using time sliced data transmissions. A negotiation channel can be u...
