Polymeric films of poly(N-~vinylcarbazole) when used in conjunction with other photosensitive layers in composite
photoconductive insulating layers generally manifest un~
satisfactory mechanical properties due to their limited
flexibility. The addition of plasticizers to poly(N~
vinylcarbazole) films has generally been unsatisfactory
because such plasticizers interfere with the electronic
response of the photoconductive polymer~ It has been
found that solid plasticizers such as 2,3-dimethyl naphtha-
lene can be satisfactorily incorporated into polymeric
films of poly(N-vinylcarbazole) at concentrations up to
about 8 weight percent without substantial alteration of
the electronic properties of the photoconductive polymer.
These plasticizers do, however, dramatically improve the
flexibility of such photoconductive polymeric films and
thus render such films suitable for use in composite
photoconductive insulating layers.
