An apparatus used on a reel containing a web such as, for
example, motion picture film or microfilm, which apparatus
insures a clean web surface when the web is removed from
the reel. The apparatus is attached to a reel and is in the
form of plurality of cleaning elements secured to the reel
in a manner which allows the reel to rotate independently
from the cleaning elements. The cleaning elements consist
of two cleaner towels that are mounted upon a bracket which
is in turn secured to the reel. The cleaner towels wipe
the web surfaces clean as the web is wound upon the reel
or removed therefrom, The cleaning elements can be treated
with, for example, a film cleaning solution so as to aid in
the cleaning of the film.
