Abstract

A hand-held microfiche viewer is provided with an indexer that is extends from the viewer in the form of two arm-like members which meet and form a circular top portion having an opening. This arrangement is used in combination with a microfiche book, i.e., an article formed of a first portion containing the microfiche, itself, and a separate and attached second portion which is an index member coupled to the microfiche in predetermined alignment with the micro- fiche, the index member having recorded thereon in prede~~ termined discrete areas indicia which identifies corres- ponding recorded information on the microfiche, the indicia lying on the index member in substantially the same geome- tric array as the corresponding recorded information appears on the microfiche. After the user places the microfiche portion of the microfiche book within the viewer and aligns the index member with the indexer, the subject matter seen through the circular portion of the indexer as defined by the indicia on the index member will automatically coincide with the related microfiche subject matter that will be po- sitioned in the lens of the hand~held viewer.
