Abstract

An educational device particularly useful for children in the elementary school grades is illustrated. The device is designed to present a unique method for teaching children how to measure mass. The device, itself, consists of two semi- desk circular rockers 1 that are connected by a trough 2, each end of which is inserted into one of the rockers. Each of the rockers 1 include ridges 3 located on the top portions thereof which provide a degree of stability to the structure. In operation, a mass is placed in the trough and the student starts the rocker in motion, counting the number of times the rocker moves back and forth. This count is compared to similar counts made with known masses, The known mass points are plotted on a graph. The unknown is then assigned a quantity number dependent on the plotting of its mass coor- dinate reference.
