Abstract

Films of po1y(N~-vinylcarbazole) are generally unsatis~ factory for use in composite photoconductive insulating layers due to their marginal mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of these photoconductive polymer films can be enhanced by incorporating therein small amounts (up to about 2 1/2 weight percent) of a polyester resins such as Flexciad (a copolyester of ethylene terephthalate and ethylene isophthalate). At these con= centrations of plasticer, the mechanical properties of the photoconductive films are dramatically improved whereas the impact of such plasticizer on electrophoto- graphic performance is relatively minor.
