Abstract

This cleaning system achieves high air velocities adjacent to a photoreceptor with minimum mass flow rate for cleaning toner from photoreceptors, This involves the use of high velocity air blowing tangential to a photoreceptor, removing the toner from its surface. This loose toner is then removed into a low pressure drop vacuum system through ports 2 surrounding the high velocity air. This system has the benefit of cleaning photoreceptors without mechanical contact and consequent wear.

of cleaning photoreceptors without mechanical contact and
consequent wear.

A problem encountered in this type of device is the very large
flow rate of air normally required. However, if the source of
high pressure air can be made very close to the photoreceptor
surface then the escape area is reduced and hence the flow
rate is reduced. Lower flow rates give less power input
requirements. Also the toner separation/filter system may
be smaller, again using less power.
