A method for producing xerographic copies having selected
portions thereof highlighted by color, in which the original
document to be reproduced is itself color-highlighted as
desired in the copy, and then reproduced using a color
copier

A thermally-tackifiable coating is applied directly to the
area of an original to be highlighted. The dried coating
is then exposed to activating radiation, e.g., infrared,
which tackifies the material in the more heat-absorptive
image areas, but not in the background areas. The tacky
areas are then highlighted by, for example, dusting with a
colored toner, and the original is then reproduced.
