A method for producing xerographic copies having selected
portions thereof highlighted by color, in which the original
document to be reproduced is itself color~highlighted as
desired in the copy, and then reproduced using a color
copier.

A document overlay sheet is coated with a thermally~acti~
vatable formulation having a coloring agent dispersed in it,
The overlay is applied to the area of the original to be
highlighted, and the original and overlay are then exposed
to activating thermal radiation such as infrared, which
causes the coating to melt and increase the color intensity
in the more heat-absorptive image area. The original with
overlay thereon, is then copied. The coloring agent concen-~
tration is set low enough that the color in the background
areas would not be copied.
