shows the path of a strip of magnetic tape 2 around a tape
guide 4, The shoulder 6 is assumed to be in contact or
in close proximity to the tape edge,

Figure 2 is an enlarged cut-away side view of Figure 1,
showing the tape 2 with its right edge in position close
to the shoulder 6. The flow of compressed air is shown
as a series of arrows entering the guide 4 through a

hole 8 and creating an air bearing between the guide 4
and the tape 2, Since the tape 2 is under tension, and

since the diameter of the guide 4 and air bearing de-
creases from left to right, the tape 2 will be urged
against the shoulder 6. A separate urging means is thus
unnecessary.
