The keyboard of Figure 1 provides for information encoding
with minimal finger movement by the operator. The keys
of the keyboard are arranged in clusters I through 5,
such as a cluster of five keys as illustrated in Figure
2, with a majority of the keys of a cluster having the
force-receiving surface oriented toward, i.e., perpendi-
cular to, the key operator. The operator places a
finger in each of the clusters 1 through 5 and the

motion of the finger, such as back, down, front or
sideways is used to activate a selected key. Figure 1
illustrates the placement of the hand and fingers that
can achieve operation of five key clusters with an
additional key 6, such as a space key, activated by
downward movement of the palm.
