Developer is circulated in a loop from a sump 31 upwardly
through the development zone 15 and then back to the Sump.

A paddlewheel 32 is provided to transport developer from the
sump to the pick up area 33,

A blender 36 is located in the path of developer returning from
the development zone to the sump 31. The blender comprises a
rotatable chamber 41, the periphery of which is defined by a
plurality of axially elongated, radially angulated, channel-like
passageways 42~44 for guiding developer into and out of the
chamber 41. The developer tends to dwell temporarily in the
chamber 41 because the minimum radial angulation of the passage
ways 42-44 is selected to exceed the angle of repose of the
