toner uniformly onto the Donor surface. This invention re~~
lates to a method of loading and holding such a uniform
layer of toner on the donor surface. The donor surface is
coated with a thin layer of volatile liquid, such as methanol,
selenium spray, or Freon 11, and toner is cascaded or doc~
tored across it. The liquid holds some of the toner by sur~
face tension forces, and after the liquid is allowed to

evaporate, the toner is then loose and available for touch~
down development. The toner must, of course, be insoluble
in the liquid. Thickness of the liquid layer will depend
upon factors such as nature of the liquid, thickness of
toner desired, etc.
