Referring to Figure 1, ink-collecting wires 2 are located
on either side of the print position of a typewriter with
the print position being located approximately at the center
of aperture 5 of card guide 1, The wires 2 are positioned
to be in contact with the typewriter ribbon 4 as it moves
past the print position. Ink build-up 3 occurs on the ink--

collecting wires 2 rather than on the card guide 1, As more
clearly depicted in the enlarged top view of one of the ink--
collecting wires 2 of Figure 1, the ink build-up 3 utravelsu
toward the backside of the wire 2, becomes structurally
unstable and breaks off from the wires. This configuration
is useful in typewriters where the ribbon and card guide are
in close proximity and ink build--upon the card guide results
in loss of print or increased card guide cleaning.

Figure 2 is a side view of Figure 1 showing the generally
close proximity of the elements involved.
