A sorter 1 is provided for collating the output of a repro-
ducing machine such as a xerographic copier. The sheets are
fed from the copier along an input transport 2, and then
along one of two alternative paths, For a non-sort mode,

a pivoting sorter transport 3 is tilted to the up position
shown in phantom and the sheets are fed into the first
tray 4, For a sort mode of operation the pivoting trans-

port 3 is moved into sheet blocking relationship as shown
in solid lines and the sheets proceed about the turn 5, and
down the vertical transport 6. A moving stripper finger
7 sequentially distributes the copy sheets into the respec-
tive bins 4 and 4~. The use of a pivotal transport 3

allows the first bin 4 of the sorter to receive all the
sheets from the machine when it is operated in a non-sort
mode or to act as the first bin of the sorter in a sorting
mode.
