The breaking of the toner-carrier bond may be accomplished
by inserting a high frequency transducer in the form of a
bar or tube in the development path such that when developer
flows over it the toner will be shaken loose from the
carrier
0 The oscillating bar may also serve as a develop-
ment electrode, The transducer may be driven by any of
the following methods:

1) electromagnetic oscillator,'

2) R,F. standing wave oscillator;

3) mechanical oscillator;

4) a piezoelectric transducer;

5) a pneumatic vibrating device.

The following advantages would be obtained from the above

arrangement:

1) higher development speeds yielding greater outputs,'

2) a decrease in development zone areas (therefore, fewer

rolls and other mechanical parts may be needed); and
3) improved overall development capabilities.
