binding. The disorderly or staggered effect of the indivi~-
dual sheets on the edges to be bound is illustrated by
numeral 6, Clamp means 10 firmly hold the stack of sheets
in place in areas distal the edge 6 so that the edges
designated by numeral 6 can be moved, and movable plate 8
or other suitable means applies a force at edge 6 to form
a bend in the sheets near edge 6 as shown in Figure 2.

The bend in the stack of sheets presents a progressively
staggered surface and exposes the edges and portions of
the surfaces of the sheets. Glue or other suitable binding
media is applied at bent edge 6 by applicator 12 as shown
in Figure 3, The glue or cement then flows and spreads
along the exposed edges and surfaces of the sheets at
edge 6 resulting in good penetration as shown in Figure 4
when movable plate 8 is withdrawn and the stack of sheets
