Abstract

An improved fusing apparatus 101 for fusing images I on sheet S. Sheet S is advanced by conveyor 140 onto fuser roll 103 which is made up of a core member 105 made of quartz and an elastomeric layer 107 which is transparent to infrared radiation. An infrared lamp 110 is positioned inside the fuser roll with retractable reflector 112, A stationary reflector 120 reflects energy onto elastomeric layer 107. A tacking corotron 142 and detacking corotron 144 serve to tack and detack sheet S on layer 107. Pressure roll 130 which is covered with a non- sticky smooth material layer 132 serves to apply sufficient pressure to the partially fused images I on sheet S. A blower 150 facilitates separation of the sheet S from the roll surfaces. A stripper 152 is provided to ensure stripping of sheet S. Cleaning rolls 160 clean any contami- nants from the surface of the fuser roll.
