Abstract

The Figure shows a side view of a stepped cross-mixer design 1 which would extend across the development system of a reproducing machine. The cross-mixer includes a thin sheet of metal formed with a pick-off edge 2 for receiving developer material and a series of steps 3. Each of the steps has punched holes 4 spaced apart and extending laterally from side-to-side of the development system.

The Figure shows a side view of a stepped cross-mixer
design 1 which would extend across the development system
of a reproducing machine. The cross-mixer includes a thin
sheet of metal formed with a pick-off edge 2 for receiving
developer material and a series of steps 3. Each of the
steps has punched holes 4 spaced apart and extending
laterally from side-to-side of the development system.

The holes 4 allow a portion of the developer which cascades
over the steps 3 to pass through. Chutes or ramps 5 are
arranged below each of the holes 4 for directing the
developer mix laterally of the development system. The
ramps 5 are inclined from the vertical, and each of the
ramps associated with a given step 3 directs the developer
in one direction. The ramps associated with the next
adjacent step 3 direct the developer in the opposing
direction, This arrangement provides a tumbling-type mix-
ing as the developer cascades over the respective steps 3
and also side-to~sidemixing as the developer falling
through the holes in the steps is directed laterally in
one or the opposing directions.
