Abstract

An improved pre-clean corona generating device 1 is pro- vided for use in conjunction with the cleaning system 2 of a reproducing machine~ The cleaning system 2 is arranged to remove residual toner from an imaging surface 3, The corona generator 1 comprises a coronode wire 4 and a shield 5~ A slot 6 is provided in the back of the shield to provide communication with a vacuum chamber 7 arranged about the back of the shield, In operation air would be drawn into the cavity defined by the shield and about the coronode wire, The vacuum source could be provided by connecting the vacuum chamber 7 to a vacuum transports The use of a vacuum assisted pre-clean corotron as set forth above should reduce the emission of ozone which can cause copy quality defects known as comets,
