A method is described for preparing a uniform, reproduc-
ible sample of colorant dispersed in a resin in form

suitable for measurement by spectral transmittance~ The
method for preparing the spatially uniform sample of a
colorant dispersed in resin comprises preparing a blend
of the pigment in a solution of the resin; coating the

resulting uniform dispersion of pigment in the resin
solution on a glass substrate; and leveling the dis-
persion with a Mayer rod to provide a sample having a

constant thickness over the desired area of substrate~

Suitable solvents for the resin include toluene,
p-xylene and methylethyl ketone~ The spectral measure-
ment is preferably conducted on the dry film with a

suitable spectrophotometer, Reproducible results have
been obtained for resin solutions blended with from about 0~5 percent to about 5~0 percent (by weight) pigment.

The spectral data obtained on these film samples may
be used to establish a reliable cure of spectral trans-

mittance over a desired pigment concentration range.
