Abstract

A print wheel 1 having character portions 2 embedded with metallic particles so as to create a permanent magnet in each of the character portions. A stationary electromagnet 3, shaped so as to concentrate and direct the magnetic field, is mounted in operative relationship to the print wheel characters, When the electromagnet is energized, the partic~ ular character in the print position is driven against the platen 4 by the force of the magnetic field, resulting in printout of the particular character. Platen 4 can be corona charged to assist in creating the required force for the printout function.
