Abstract

It is often desirable to obtain an objective indication of the developability, background deposition and life expectancy characteristics of developer used in a xerographic develop- ment system. It is known that the magnitude of the forces holding toner to carrier is a reasonable determinant of the above characteristics, In view of this, a source of low velocity air (2 to 3 ft/sec) is made to impinge on developer to theteby separate toner from carrier beads, The amount of toner stripped from the carrier under given conditions of temperature, humidity, known air velocity etc. is indicative of the above noted developer characteristics, By comparing the amount of toner removed during a test period to a standard, a determination of developer quality may be made.
