A method of cleaning photoreceptors to remove toner
particles adhering thereto following transfer of the
developed image in xerography, is disclosed~ The method
utilizes high velocity toner particles and comprises forcing
the toner particles at a high velocity against the photo~
receptor to dislodge toner particles adhered to the photo~
receptor

In a preferred embodiment a mixture of air and toner is
used in the cleaning method, and less than one milligram of
toner per square inch of photoreceptor to be cleaned is
sufficient for dislodging residual toner particles adhered
to the photoreceptor~ Several possible air energizing
devices are suitable for toner impingement cleaning systems
and methods, exemplary of which include air~coupled ultra~
sonic devices, steady air flow streams, pulsed air streams,
and the likes Injection of the toner into the air stream
can be carried out by a rotary toner dispenser, and toner
removal from the air stream can be accomplished by a centri~
fugal separator.
