A method and apparatus for heating a liquid developer
assembly at a temperature above ambient is described, By
elevating the temperature of at least the liquid developer
to the extent that the temperature of the liquid developer
assembly becomes elevated above ambient temperature, not

only is there substantial reduction or elimination of back-~
ground development but there is also outstanding image en~
hancement, This is accomplished in a process for developing
latent electrostatic images on a substrate with liquid de~
veloper from a liquid developer assembly wherein liquid
developer is supplied to the substrate to be developed by

a liquid developer applicator doctored by at least one
doctoring device to provide a uniform level of liquid de~

veloper on the liquid developer applicator, the improvement
comprising heating the liquid developer assembly at a temp~
erature above ambient,
