Abstract

It is disclosed that carbon black or other pigment should be dispersed in a toner polymer in such a way that the pigment does not affect the tribo charging properties of the toner. The pigment does not affect the tribo properties if the coating thickness over the pigment near the surface of the toner particle is greater than the charge penetration depth for the particles. When pigment particles are on or near the surface of the toner particle this may lead to non-uniform polarity and variable tribo charging values for the toner, Carbon black or other pigment may be solution dispersed in high concentration in a polymer in such a way as to not be at or near the surface and thereby affect the tribo charging.
