Abstract

A problem in ink jet systems utilizing pigment type inks is clogging of the ink jet nozzles and, hence, loss of image density. One solution is to cause the ink droplets to pass through a powder cloud of toner placed between the ink jet nozzle and the recording medium causing the ink to pick up some of the toner particles on its passage through the cloud. The jet liquid may then be chosen for its ability to collect toner in its flight and to fuse the toner on landing. Alter-natively, a dyed liquid whose density is increased by toner absorption may be used. In either case, the liquid will be more readily ejected from the jet nozzles.
