Abstract

A very thin liquid layer on an electrode surface is exposed to imagewise laser light to generate ions in the space between the electrode and an adjacent second electrode. A field is applied between the two electrodes simultaneously with laser imaging. Imagewise air breakdown in the space between the electrodes is thus achieved.

A very thin liquid layer on an electrode surface is exposed to
imagewise laser light to generate ions in the space between
the electrode and an adjacent second electrode. A field is
applied between the two electrodes simultaneously with laser
imaging. Imagewise air breakdown in the space between the
electrodes is thus achieved.

An insulating layer is interposed on the second electrode.
Charge transfer to the insulator as a result of air breakdown
produces a charge pattern on the insulator.
