Abstract

An electrophotographic and printing machine employs a devel-oper mix comprising carrier granules and toner particles. The toner particles are deposited on a latent image rendering it visible. This depletes the supply of toner particles within the developer unit. A control system regulates the concentra-tion of toner particles within the developer mix. The control system comprises a transparent electrode 36 disposed on drum 10. Drum 10 has the photoconductive surface 12 secured there-to and entrained thereabout. A light source 30 is mounted interiorly of drum 10. Photosensor 40 is disposed exteriorly of drum 10. Transparent electrode 36 is electrically biased to attract toner particles from the developer mix thereto. In this way, the intensity of the light rays transmitted through transparent electrode 36 is detected by photosensor 40 Photosensor 40, in turn, develops an electrical signal indica-tive of the toner particles deposited on transparent electrode 36. An analog to digital converter 58 converts and processes the analog signal from photosensor 40 to a suitable digital signal. The digital signal from logic circuit 58 is trans-mitted to comparator 60. Similarly, logic circuit 64 is an analog to digital converter and converts the reference signal from an analog signal to a digital signal.
