Abstract

Alkylated and/or unalkylated polymeric- ,4 -ethylenically Unsaturated carboxylic acids or 'anhydr ides alone o; in resin blends have been described in British Patent So. 1,343,110 as useful oltercoatings for photoconductors. these materials can be rendered hydrophil.ic after imaging and -atilizedas litho-' graphic printing lusters. Poly(vinyl methyl ether/maleic anhydride) copolymers (flM/M&) are typical of the resins in this general class of materials. PVM/M& can be directly utilized as a photoconductor when combined with, for example, 4,4-bis(dimethylamino) benzophenone and suitably dye 'sensi'- tized with, for example, Fluoral iSA dye. (GAB' Corporation). The photoconductive composition is' coated on a suitable sup-port, conductive or non-donductive. In use, the plate is charted, exposed, and developed, and, the image on the plate is fixed • The toner used-for development is capable of func-tioning as a lithographic ink receptor. The non-image area, of the plate .is rendered'hydrophi].ic, for example, by treatment with aqueous ammonia. The flats thus functions as a lith-ographic master.
