Abstract

A method of making a staple web from strip stock 30 which is made of suitable low carbon steel material. Stock strip 30 is sheared and formed progressively as shown in Figure 5(3) through 5(E) starting at the edges and working progressively towards the center until individual staple elements have been formed. After forming, the staple elements are coined or cold formed to form bridge 12 with a relief 14 of the stock material as shown in Figure 5(F). The edges of staple elements 11 are ground to form staple points 15 as shown in Figure 5(F).
