Substantially spherical submicron size particles of amorphous
selenium are produced by a process in which larger particles
of amorphous selenium are directed against each other by means
of opposing jet streams or are directed against a target by a
jet stream.

The process involves jet pulverization and utilizes the expan-
sion of a compressible fluid to a high velocity through a
nozzle or nozzles in order to accelerate solid feed particles
against each other at relatively great speeds. The particles

are compacted or abraded against each other in such a manner
as to continually reduce their size. After size reduction,
classification of the particles may be effected by well known
methods such as by controlling opposed centrifugal and drag
forces.

In the drawing above, feed material 11 is delivered to the jet
pulverization unit at 8. High pressure fluid is supplied to
the jet pulverizing apparatus at inlet 1 which is divided into
source lines 2 and 3. Particulate feed material 11 is di-
rected through channels 7 which splits into feed channels 9
and 10 before joining source lines 2 and 3 at joints 14 and 15.
