Abstract

An improved current/light intensity relationship is achieved in a standard vacuum UV lamp 1 by including monochromator slit 2 in the lamp-s anode flange 3. A small quartz capillary 4 is used on the exit side of finned cathode 5, Quartz capillary 6 is of small inside diameter and is partially plugged with quartz wool (not shown) to prevent electrical discharge.

The use of small quartz capillary 4 in combination with the
placement of monochromator slit 2 close to capillary 4 results
in a 2O~25 times increase in intensity of light output through
the monochrornator (not shown) at standard currents,
