Abstract

As shown in Figure 1, the lithographic printing machine in-cludes a master plate 10 having an outer plate 14 with an image thereon. An impression cylinder rotates in the direction of arrow 24 is biased against cylinder 10. Support material 20 is interposed between cylinder 10 and impression cylinder 22.

FIG./

As shown in Figure 1, the lithographic printing machine in-
cludes a master plate 10 having an outer plate 14 with an image
thereon. An impression cylinder rotates in the direction of
arrow 24 is biased against cylinder 10. Support material 20
is interposed between cylinder 10 and impression cylinder 22.

The inking system includes an ink fountain 26 dispensing ink
onto metering blade 28 engaging form roll 16. Metering blade
28 regulates the thickness and uniformity of the ink applied
to form roll 16. Support material 20 is advanced from supply
spool 32 to take-up spool 34,

Referring to Figure 2, form roll 16 includes an inner cylin-
drical member 42 made from a substantially rigid material such
as a metal. A resilient layer 44 is entrained about in the
cylinder 42. Preferably, outer layer 42 is made from a soft
material such as a rubber. Blade 28 has edge 38 in engagement
with roll 16. The uniformity of the ink is regulated by devel-
oping reciprocating movement between form roll 16 and blade
28. Either form roll 16 may reciprocate in the direction of
