Abstract

A novel electrophotographic imaging member comprising a brush grained aluminum substrate, a layer of amorphous selenium and a charge carrier transport layer. The substrate has a roughened surface with asperities of from about 1 to about 5 microns. The selenium layer is deposited on the substrate by arranging the latter as the cathode in an electrodeposition cell filled with aqueous selenious acid electrolyte and passing a constant current supplied by a D.C. energy source

A novel electrophotographic imaging member comprising a brush
grained aluminum substrate, a layer of amorphous selenium and
a charge carrier transport layer. The substrate has a
roughened surface with asperities of from about 1 to about 5
microns. The selenium layer is deposited on the substrate by
arranging the latter as the cathode in an electrodeposition
cell filled with aqueous selenious acid electrolyte and
passing a constant current supplied by a D.C. energy source

through the electrolyte. After being removed from the cell
and dried, the selenium layer is overcoated with a layer of a
charge carrier transport material which is capable of trans-
porting at least one species of charge carrier. The novel
member is capable of continuous tone and solid area reproduc~
tion in xerographic imaging methods without the use of screens
or development electrodes.
