Abstract

A ribbon cartridge 10 is capable of feeding ribbon 36 in a recirculating manner through an input port 34, an input feed-ing chamber 32, a storage chamber 38, an output feeding cham-ber 40 and an output port 42. Ribbon fed along a bearing member 64 into the output feeding chamber 40 is directed along a guide pin 67 and then twisted 180° before exiting the cart-ridge housing through an output port 42. As shown in Figure 2, a guide bar 72 extends from the inner surface of the cartridge top portion 16 in the output feeding chamber 40. The purpose of guide bar 72 is to precisely define the desired twist con-

RIBBON CARTRIDGE WITH TWIST MAINTAINING GUIDE (Cont'd)

A ribbon cartridge 10 is capable of feeding ribbon 36 in a
recirculating manner through an input port 34, an input feed-
ing chamber 32, a storage chamber 38, an output feeding cham-
ber 40 and an output port 42. Ribbon fed along a bearing
member 64 into the output feeding chamber 40 is directed along
a guide pin 67 and then twisted 180° before exiting the cart-
ridge housing through an output port 42. As shown in Figure 2,
a guide bar 72 extends from the inner surface of the cartridge
top portion 16 in the output feeding chamber 40. The purpose
of guide bar 72 is to precisely define the desired twist con-

figuration in the 180° twist region of the chamber 40, as well
as to insure that the ribbon does not flaten at the twist
during high-tensioned, high-speed surges or the like. Such
flattening might cause the twist to migrate from the

cartridge. The guide bar 72 prevents such migration.
