It is disclosed that aryl azo pyr~azolones may be used as
colorants in electroscopic toners. The following structure
and its derivatives are useful:

where R1 = -H-CH3, -CH2CH3 and higher alkyls both cyclic and
straight chained, branched and unbranched; -(CH

2)-CONR, -

2)n_SONR (where n = 1 to 18 and R = H or alkyl moities); -

COOH, -COOR (where R = alkyl or aryl groups both substituted

and unsubstituted) , and R2 through R11 could be the same or
different groups including -H-; -CH

                               3 -CH2CH3 and higher
alkyls both cyclic and linear, branched and unbranched; -COOH,

-COOR (where R = alkyl or aryl groups both substituted and

unsubstituted) ; -SO~NR~(where R = alkyl or aryl both sub-

stituted and unsubstituted); -H and mixtures thereof; -NO~ -

NH
2 -NR2 (where R = H, alkyl or aryl, both substituted and
unsubstituted); COCH

3 -COCH2CH3, -SO2CH5, -CO-flu; SO2-

K~3; -OR (where R = H, or alkyl and aryl groups both Substitu-

ted and unsubstituted); -Cl; -Br, -F; -CN; CONH

                                          2 -CONHR
(where R could be alkyl or aryl group and adjacent P. groups may

consist of joined fused rings both aromatic and saturated)
