Abstract

In the prior art (see Figure 1) , an intensifying screen 1 converts X-ray energy 2 into visible light 3. Intensifying screen 1 is typically a phosphor layer. Light 3 exposes emulsion layers 4 on light transmissive film base 5.

FIG. 2

In the prior art (see Figure 1) , an intensifying screen 1
converts X-ray energy 2 into visible light 3. Intensifying
screen 1 is typically a phosphor layer. Light 3 exposes
emulsion layers 4 on light transmissive film base 5.

Light from any point on either screen 1 exposes both emulsions
4. The film thickness adversely effects that resulting
resolution and contrast.

According to the present idea (see figure 2) , two films 6 are
used. Each film has only one emulsion layer 4 on base 5. The
films 6 are arranged so that emulsion layers 4 are adjacent to
intensifying screens 1. Mask 7 is placed between films 6
Mask 7 absorbs light 3 and is permeable by X-rays 2.

X-rays 2 cause screens 1 to give off light 3 which exposes only
the emulsion 4 which is closest to each screen. Mask 7 pre-
vents light 3 from one screen from exposing the more distant
emulsion. The diminished resolution and contrast caused by
the spreading of light 3 in the prior art is thus avoided.
